A single candle can defy the darkness and slowly make way for light. The world of neurodiversity is rich, creative and profound, yet neurodiverse individuals, who don’t conform to our restrictive definition of normal, live a bleak life, shunned by mainstream society. Opportunities for them to blossom and flourish remain out of reach.
My initiative, Project Nishant aims to transform a dark present into a bright future for neurodiverse young adults by enabling them to gain access to employment and thereby uplift their income generation capability, self-esteem, and independence. I embarked on this mission 8 months ago, and today, this Project has truly taken wings.
We have NGO partners, who help us identify and train employable neurodiverse people, and many corporates with social conscience and sustainability agendas, keen to work with Project Nishant. Our website creates an ecosystem to facilitate employment, by matching our candidates’ skillsets and locations with requisite job roles. We continue to be a support system for our Nishant Icons after they start working. We have successfully placed four candidates in reputed companies and more recruitments are in progress.
In January 2022, my initiative won the prestigious tGELF Harmony Youth Leadership National Competition.
With Project Nishant, we brought the issue of employment of neurodiverse people to the fore and created a model that has passed the proof of concept. We also bridged a gap that very few people thought was possible.
